Wheat Diet Lowers Your Risk of Breast Cancer
62Ladies, wheat-bran muffins are good for more than your mid-morning snack. They could lower your risk of developing breast cancer.
A diet high in wheat bran may help reduce estrogen hormonal levels in women who have not experienced menopause yet. And a lower level of estrogen could mean lower risk of breast cancer.
Scientists performed a study on about 60 pre-menopausal women to test the effects of wheat bran on estrogen levels. They discovered that the women who ate three to four wheat-bran muffins a day for two months lowered their blood levels of estrogen.
High levels of estrogen in the blood have been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, so the reduced levels associated with a high intake of wheat bran help reduce that risk of developing breast cancer.
Corn-bran and oat-bran muffins did not have the same effect on lowering estrogen levels.
Women past the age of menopause might also benefit from wheat bran. The report suggests that a high intake of wheat bran helps prevent the development of a second tumor in postmenopausal women who have already been treated for breast cancer.
So, enjoy the mid-morning wheat-bran muffin snack.
